Paul Oughton is a Newcastle Upon Tyne based professional artist well known for his semi abstract depictions of major cities. A self taught artist Paul Oughton has been painting for 9 years after having retired from a previous occupation which involved frequent travel throughout Europe and the USA. The memories of seeing the masses struggle to get to work on time, experiencing the sounds and atmosphere of high rise jungles prompted Paul to pick up a brush and recreate those memories in colour.

The memories of seeing the masses struggle to get to work on time, experiencing the sounds and atmosphere of high rise jungles prompted Paul to pick up a brush and recreate those memories in colour.

Paul Oughton uses many different mediums to create his paintings and the cityscape series are mainly made using acrylic paints and inks which have been layered using glazing techniques to give very atmospheric effects within each painting. Incorporating silhouetted figures maintains a human dimension without too much detail thus keeping each painting uncomplicated allowing the viewer to easily read it.
